Roman candles had been lit. Bottles of liquor had been shared. Families had partaken a hearty media noche. And lovers had engaged in the sweetest, most vulnerable kiss. 2012 bid us all adieu. And now, the first day of another year. Dawn.
The remnants from the firecrackers still envelop the city. People everywhere are clearing up their spaces and cleansing their inebriated veins with coffee or some hangover cure. Brewed, juiced or blended-- who knows? As the Sun claims its throne high above the veiled sky, the beginning has come. And similar to what we had done 365 days ago, we scribble our goals on sheets of paper, draft our resolutions on paper we would eventually crumple, and hang our dreams high above the clouds. The ritual balances us. Thank yous had been expressed, apologies had been said, and the wrongs had been forgiven. The slate is clean. On this day, everyone becomes hopeful, even those people who have given up. We ask the Higher Beings, even plead for their mercy, that this year will turn out to be a good one. And that it will be the opportune time when they will finally grant us what we have longed for. Hope against hope, fingers crossed.
A better tomorrow? We do not know just yet. For now, a prayer is all we can offer, imbued with the courage and will to do the things we ought to do no matter what the odds are. We have to open ourselves and submit humbly to things that is yet to unfold. Hopefully, the best is yet to come.
May we overcome everything that scares and scars us, find what we are looking for and pursue what we have always dreamed of .
Happy New Year!
