Just like the waves

Batangas April 2011

Just like the waves, we are forced to leave the comforts of the shore we called our home for us to explore the farthest reaches of the sea. We have been cradled by its tranquillity and tested by its rage. Yet there are still so many storms to face, depths to sink into, fears to conquer, new shorelines to meet. We are meant to get lost from time to time, that's for sure. We are meant to struggle along the way.

At times though, we are tempted to find our way back to the coast where we first started: our home. When we do, we have come full circle. But we couldn't disregard the fact that we have been changed inevitably by the tides of time and space. The shore has changed too, becoming less familiar despite the nostalgia it brings. And just like the waves, we have to once again leave everything behind and embark on another odyssey.

Then there's no other way but to accept that our home is not the stable shoreline after all. Right from the start, we belong to the unpredictable expanse of the sea.
